12th of November at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre. Doors open 7pm for a 7.30pm start. With a surprise local guest. $15 at the door – supported by Waikato District Creative Communities.

Jon Sanders comes to NZ in October and November for a tour of exciting new compositions from his third solo album, Zoukelele. Mali-inspired ngoni Uke tunes stand alongside Arabic anthems on his guitar-shaped bouzouki with a generous measure of Celtic, Blues and contemporary groove too!

The Irish Times called it a “deeply meditative, impishly playful, jazz-tinged collection” of world music compositions.

Raglander Michael Mackinnon said, “Saw him playing in Dingle recently. He just keeps getting better. It will really be worth being there.”

Fresh from nationwide tours and festival gigs in Europe, Jon performs with melodic and vocal playfulness to take listeners from meditative trance states to belly dancing furores! Those of you who have heard him play with world music band Beyondsem1 will recognise some of them!

Jon is a leading exponent of drop D and DAGAD guitar, his music has been used in film and TV and is currently on national radio in several countries worldwide. His other albums, Latitudes and Twigs of the Neem Tree prompted the media to call his playing “quantum leaping”. “He has an uncanny musical curiosity that refuses to be boxed in” said one national paper and he has been variously described as the Bard of Bouzouki and Duke of Uke by other music critics.
