Old School win sees Raglan invited to celebrate with movie director Taika Waititi

Taika Waititi has invited Raglan to join him and the cast from his latest film ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’ on Sunday afternoon and celebrate Raglan’s win as the best small town premiere. So come on down to the Raglan Old School Arts Centre on Stewart St, this Sunday 3rd from 2.30pm to celebrate his new hit New Zealand film. Get to see director Taika Waititi up close on the red carpet along with the film’s star Julian Dennison (Ricky Baker).

Next to the stars, the media will capture the excitement at this family event.

The brand new movie Hunt for the Wilderpeople launched on Wednesday evening (30th March) with simultaneous premieres in Raglan and 41 other centres nationwide. From the director of ‘Boy’ and ‘What We Do In the Shadows’, Taika Waititi’s new film is a hilarious and heartfelt adventure based on Barry Crump’s novel, ‘Wild Pork & Watercress’. Ricky (Julian Dennison) is a defiant young city kid who finds himself on the run with his grumpy foster uncle (Sam Neill). A national manhunt ensues and the two are forced to work together to survive.

Raglan’s Movies at the Old School won the competition for the top premiere for Hunt for the Wilderpeople for a rural cinema. The Raglan premiere was held at the Old School Arts Centre on Wednesday 30th.

The prize for the Raglan community going all out Facebooking, dressing up and having fun at the premiere is a visit from key cast and crew members of Hunt for the Wilderpeople on Sunday 3rd April.

So come along and celebrate this big win for our small town with stars at the Old School Arts Centre.

Dogs, pigs, horses, all welcome!

Join in the fun by dressing up as your favourite character in the movie:

Uncle Hec, Auntie Bella, Ricky Baker, Andy/Police, Bella/Terminator, Psycho Sam, Hunters Ron or Hugh, Kahu the Beautiful Wahine, or come disguised as Real Good NZ Bush.

At 3pm your dress-up will be judged, with the winners being first in line for selfies with members of the cast and for signings. There will be a free Swanndri prize as well!

When the special guests arrive they will be welcomed then they’ll be available for a chat, selfies and signings.

The award winning swannie themed cupcakes created by Abbie of True Food, just for the Raglan premiere, will be on sale along with scroggin biscuits.

And there will also be a collaboration of local food providers to bring you a Taste of Raglan

To further mark the win, Movies at the Old School has arranged another screening of Hunt for the Wilderpeople on Sunday at 5.00pm. For reserves phone 07 825 0023 and leave a message or email info@raglanartscentre.co.nz. Reserve requests for this screening will close at 12 noon on Sunday.
