There is no painter in the world both more famous and less known than Edvard Munch.
The debt contemporary culture has towards Munch is impressive, from Andy Warhol to Ingmar Bergman, from Marina Abramovich to Jasper Johnes.
If his painting has become a symbol and at the same time an omen of the tragedies of the twentieth century, his art has travelled new and experimental roads of extraordinary modernity. Today, however, it is his city, Oslo, which sets a turning point for the knowledge of Munch: the birth of a new museum. This documentary will start from there to shed light on a man and an artist with singular charm, a precursor and a master.

LIVE & LOCAL FRI DEC 9 at Raglan Old School Arts Centre – upstairs in Whare Tapere
Koha entry, 7.30pm, doors 7pm
Live & Local concerts are on the second Friday of the month.
Always a great night out, you’re assured of the pick of Raglan’s talented singer-songwriters, poets, comedians and more. And all for koha entry!
We’re up to the final Live & Local for the year! Live & Local concerts run on the second Friday of the month, showcasing local performers. This month’s acts are: Matt Kambic, Wilkie Mac with Krissy Jackson and The Blister Sisters.
Matt Kambic
Krissy Jackson
Inspired by such artists as James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, and Dan Fogelberg, Raglan singer-songwriter Matt Kambic will be performing original compositions at December’s Live & Local, accompanied by Raglan muso Brian Wilson for a number or two. If you appreciate the kind of laid-back sound enjoyed back in the day, when records spun on a spindle and a quiet tune reflected a quiet muse, Matt’s your man.
WilkieMac duo (Lynne Wilkins and Michael Mackinnon) are long-time members of the Raglan music scene and have just completed 2 new CDs, due to be released early next year. One is a collection of Lynne’s songs and tunes, and the other of favourite covers. Songs from both these CDs will feature in the set. Krissy Jackson, who is much in demand as one of the top fiddle players on the NZ folk scene, will be joining them on fiddle and vocals.
The Blister Sisters ukulele group formed two years ago out of a couple of local Timebank beginners’ ukulele workshops. Having played a few parties, they made their proper stage debut in the Live & Local NZ Music Month Special in May. They’re back for their second full spot this month, with a set of mostly 60s hits. They say, “The ukulele playing may be basic, but we promise to look frocking gorgeous!”.
LIVE & LOCAL FRI DEC 9 at Raglan Old School Arts Centre – upstairs in Whare Tapere
Koha entry, 7.30pm, doors 7pm
Live & Local is made possible with the support of Waikato District Creative Communities, Raglan Light & Sound and Mark Frost (Bayley’s Real Estate)
Live & Local will resume in February next year (no concert January). Contact the Old School Arts Centre if you’re interested in performing in 2023. Spots are paid and music, comedy, poetry are all welcome. If you’re interested in performing at one of these shows, contact penni@raglanartscentre.co.nz

Curator Susanne Giessen-Prinz says the exhibition is always a great hit and she looks forward to featuring work by local artists. “The exhibition gives local artists the opportunity to sell and showcase their work at a busy retail time of the year. And it’s a great way to do all your
Christmas shopping in one place.”
This year, local artists include potter Merren Goodison, glass artist Raewyn Fitch, painter Toni Kingstone, fabric artist Anita Seddon, jewellery by Wonderland Raglan, garden totem stacks by Justine Davies, driftwood Christmas trees by Maureen Soanes and much more.
The exhibition is a fundraiser for the Old School’s clay shed.
Open every day from Saturday 26 November until Sunday 11 December, 10am-4pm at the Old School Arts Centre – there’s plenty of off-street parking.
