MOUNTAIN
Thursday 5 October 7pm (opening same day as the rest of NZ)

Friday 6 October 8pm
Saturday 14 October, 8pm
Sunday 15 October 4.30pm

Sunday Star Times 4.5/5 Stars “.. takes us to remote communities who exist harmoniously among the peaks, before things get incredibly exciting in the extreme sports category.”

The Guardian 4/5 Stars “A sublime rush of adrenaline and orchestral beauty.”

From the director of the BAFTA-nominated Sherpa and narrated by Willem Dafoe,
Mountain explores the nature of our modern fascination with mountains in collaboration with one of the greatest chamber orchestras in the world.

Official Selection 2017 NZ International Film Festival

MOUNTAIN transports you to the point of view of the high wire walker or bike rider, off the edge of a cliff.

Spectacular images, shot in 21 countries by legendary mountaineer/ cinematographer Renan Ozturk (Meru, Sherpa) and others, have been cut together thematically to an orchestral score drawing on Chopin, Grieg, Vivaldi, Beethoven and new works by Richard Tognetti.

The film considers the changes in humanity’s relationship to mountains over recent times. Not so long ago they represented the divine and mysterious; to many indigenous communities living on their flanks they always will. By the time Hillary and Tenzing ascended Everest, mountains had been colonised by the west and filled our imaginations as personal challenges to be overcome.
