Aug 25: Artist talks in Whāingaroa – Amanda Watson

Artist talk with Amanda Watson at Raglan Old School Arts Centre, 5 Stewart St, Raglan. Thursday 25 August, 6.30pm – all welcome.

Enjoy an evening with local artist Amanda Watson and learn about the way she paints – her processes and influences. Along the way, Amanda will share with us some challenges and stories about her current exhibition of work made in the Whāingaroa natural environment, which opens at Ramp Gallery in Hamilton on Thursday 15 September.

A visual artist, researcher and writer, Amanda is curious about the world we live in and how we communicate about places and geographies. By spending time in places, she investigates environments, materiality and processes in painting as a way to understand the natural world. Recently she has been painting near Ruapuke, Te Mata, and Wainui and this work reflects things like trees, decomposing debris, rock and other things found in those places.

Amanda has a Master of Fine Arts, teaches visual arts at the Waikato Institute of Technology, works for an international art journal as an associate editor and has been painting for over 20 years.
