Based on the book ‘If It’s Not Impossible…’ by BARBARA WINTON
Official Selection:
Toronto International Film Festival
BFI London Film Festival
Radio NZ Dan Slevin "Sir Anthony Hopkins carries this moving drama about one of the 20th century’s unsung heroes."
ONE LIFE tells the inspiring true story of Sir Nicholas ‘Nicky’ Winton, whose unsung endeavours on the eve of World War II saved more than 600 children from their doom. Nicky considered himself a banker, not a humanitarian. Yet when he visited a recently annexed Prague in 1938 and saw the state of the fleeing Jewish refugees, he did what he believed was the right thing to do – the thing that anyone would do – and dedicated himself to the cause. War was approaching, and it was a race against time. How many children could he liberate before it ran out?
Fifty years later, it’s 1988 and Nicky is haunted by the fate of the children he wasn’t able to help. And so it’s not until he’s surprised by the survivors on live television that he can accept that when facing devastating atrocities, saving even one life is a victory, and the British public learn the truth about the hero hidden in their midst.
DIRECTOR: James Hawes
WRITER: Lucinda Coxon, Nick Drake
CAST: Sir Anthony Hopkins, Johnny Flynn, Helena Bonham Carter, Jonathan Pryce, Romola Garai, Alex Sharp, Lena Olin

Karioi Quilts & Crafts - second Thursday of every month.
The Karioi Quilters have been making high quality, natural fibre, artistic quilts for many years. Primarily a patchwork and quilting group, the members meet to share knowledge and skills and enjoy creating in good company.
From 2023, we changed the name to Karioi Quilts and Crafts to open the group up to other crafters.
Members can work on their own projects ranging from quilts, sewing projects and you can even bring your knitting, as long as it’s not a messy craft anything goes. New members are always welcome to come along to work on their own projects and learn techniques from a group of very creative craftspeople.
Group co-ordinator is Sue Webber 021 489944
Meetings are held at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre from 10am to 1pm (sometimes 3pm if the room is available) on the second Thursday of every month. 10 sessions per year from February to December. Subscription is $30 per yea r which goes towards room hire.

A renowned musical storyteller at ease with his instrument and his audience, Mike Harding’s mission for the last forty years has been to locate and perform the folk and popular songs of New Zealand’s past and present, from our colonial and folk roots to the Kiwi music of today.
‘The Ekatahuna Kid’ tour celebrates the songs and Mike’s own classic Kiwi upbringing. Born 1952 in the Eketahuna Maternity Hospital, later to be an old folks’ home (finally a goat paddock). Named ‘Michael’ by his parents, ‘Mum’ & ‘Dad’. Growing up in a small-town way; rugby at the domain, swimming in the baths and the river. At high school Gilbert & Sullivan, at home Barry Crump. Friday night shopping trips to Masterton. Shearing gangs, possum traps, country roads and country pubs.
After Massey University, his musical apprenticeship took place busking in K. Road, and Cook Street Market, followed by Folk Clubs and festivals in NZ, Australia and the UK. His first album ‘Time On The Road’ led to a hitch-hiking tour of Highways 1 to 91 with solo shows of homegrown songs.
Mike’s recordings have often been played on RNZ National Radio. He compiled ‘When the Pakeha Sings of Home’ for Godwit Press and has made several series of programmes for National Radio on New Zealand music.
Further recordings include:
‘From the Edge’ (Folk Record of the Year 1987); ‘One For You’; ‘Songs Of Local Folk’ and ‘From The Tracks’ for broadcast on National Radio and released by Replay Radio on cassette, 1989-1996; ‘Home Is Where The Heart Is’ and ‘Shaky Isles’.

Live & Local will be celebrating NZ Music Month with local musicians playing original songs and classic Kiwi covers.
Musketeer is a live looping project by Sam M, a songwriter and electric guitarist who’s made his home in Whaingaroa for the last half decade. This is the ‘coming out’ set for this project and will feature a selection of upbeat, rocky, groovy, polyrhythmic tracks.

Long time Raglan resident & blues/country/rock maestro Dave Maybee is looking forward to playing a set of his originals, penned over a lifetime of recording & musical performance. Stylistically - a little bit of this and a little bit of that, played on a selection of instruments.

The Blister Sisters
The Blister Sisters will round out the evening with a bunch of (mostly) new Kiwi covers, played in their usual irreverent style. Never mind the songs harmed in the making of this set – it’s all about the outfits!

2024 OSCAR winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph (Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role ) with 2024 Golden Globe winner Paul Giamatti (Best Male actor ) as a cranky history teacher at a prep school, forced to remain on campus over the holidays with a troubled student who has no place to go.
STUFF/ WAIKATO TIMES Graeme Tuckett 5/5 stars " Da'Vine Joy Randolph (The United States vs Billie Holiday) takes on the role of chef and confidant Mary, and burns the screen down in a couple of key scenes. The Holdovers is a marvel."
From acclaimed director Alexander Payne, THE HOLDOVERS follows a bad tempered instructor (Paul Giamatti) at a prestigious American school who is forced to remain on campus during Christmas break to babysit the handful of students with nowhere to go. Eventually he forms an unlikely bond with one of them -- a damaged, brainy troublemaker (newcomer Dominic Sessa) -- and with the school’s head cook, who has just lost a son in Vietnam (Da’Vine Joy Randolph).

Loren Taylor’s darkly comic debut feature THE MOON IS UPSIDE DOWN was awarded Best First Feature at the closing ceremony of the Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival this weekend after sell-out screenings at the highly regarded A-List festival in Estonia.
STUFF/ WAIKATO TIMES Graeme Tuckett 4/5 stars "This is a literate, clever and blackly funny gem. It won't be for everyone, but I think if you like The Moon is Upside Down at all, you'll probably love it. Bravo. "
In this New Zealand black comedy, three women - a duped mail-order bride, a numbed anaesthetist determined to have a romantic weekend, and an empty nester on an unexpected mission of mercy - each navigates her way through an unfamiliar landscape and the contours of the human heart.

Be Careful What You Post
James Croot Stuff 4.5/5 "A sometimes manic mystery, a compelling character study and a crowd-pleasing courtroom drama all rolled into one, Little Letters is truly wicked fun."
A 1920s English seaside town bears witness to a farcical and occasionally sinister scandal in this riotous mystery comedy. Based on a stranger than fiction true story, WICKED LITTLE LETTERS follows two neighbours: deeply conservative local Edith Swan (Olivia Colman) and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding (Jessie Buckley). When Edith and fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of unintentionally hilarious profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime. The anonymous letters prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues. However, as the town’s women - led by Police Officer Gladys Moss (Anjana Vasan) - begin to investigate the crime themselves, they suspect that something is amiss, and Rose may not be the culprit after all.
PRODUCER: Graham Broadbent
DIRECTOR: Thea Sharrock
WITH: Olivia Colman, Timothy Spall, Eileen Atkins, Gemma Jones, Anjana Vasan, Jessie Buckley, Joanna Scanlan, Malachi Kirby, Lolly Adefope
