The car park rebuild is complete apart from a few minor items. We are waiting for the fencing contractor to remove the safety fences. This has been promised for the 27th December. Until the 27th people booked in, to use the kitchen and rooms should keep using the temporary access. After the safety fences are removed on the 27th, the car park will be open from the 28th December 2023. The front car park area was originally the playground for the Raglan School and at that time was in concrete. So it’s good to have the surface historically matching the Old School.
The Raglan Old School Arts Centre office will be closed from Friday 22 December, 2pm until Monday 8 January, 2024. You can contact us on info@raglanartscentre.co.nz or phone 07 825 0023 and leave a message. Your email will be answered when the right person is back at work.
We are entering a Raglan Art to Wear float in the Raglan NYE parade, so the people working on that float will be the first to use the car park.
Following NYE, the new car park will be used by visitors to the exhibition opening on 1st January 2024. This will feature works from photographer Lisa Kearns and local artist Colleen Vickers. The exhibition will be open in the Old School gallery every day from Monday 1 January to Monday 15 January.
There will also be movies on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 January. Use the online booking system to reserve or buy tickets.
Raglan Community Arts Council thanks our Waikato District local councillors, ASAP Decorative, DC Drainage, other contractors and Waikato District Council Property and Project staff for making it happen and their work on the project. The RCAC committee especially thanks past committee member Sherry Coulson who worked with the WDC staff on planning the car park rebuild over the last two years. It will be great to have a smooth safe surface which isn’t always wet.
Old School Office staff worked hard to keep the Arts Centre open for users while normal access wasn’t possible. And a thank you to all users, music and movie patrons who kept using the building via the temporary access route.
Deb King, Market Coordinator did an amazing job of relocating the December Market to the Raglan Club. And the Clay Shed did a fantastic job of moving the Spirit of Christmas exhibition to Raglan Joinery in Wallis Street. Both these events were a big success at their temporary homes. Thank you to the Raglan Club and Andreas Broring for enabling the events to go ahead.
