Oct 19: Movie – STRANDED PEARL with Director talk

Stranded Pearl is the first romantic adventure film from the Cook Islands, showcasing the beautiful island landscapes and a strong ensemble cast including Home & Away’s Kristy Wright and screen legends Rawiri Paratene and Ray Woolf.

It will be screening at Raglan Old School Arts Centre on Saturday the 19th October. Raglan Community Arts Council has arranged for the film’s director, Ken Khan, to visit for another one of the Raglan Arts Centre’s very popular director talks.

Director Ken Khan says he visits Raglan from time to time. He said, “Raglan is heart, I was there last year covering the international surf event”. With over 25 years of industry experience in radio, television and film, Ken says he felt a harmony in Rachel Smith’s script for Stranded Pearl resonating with the odd duo characters. Ken added, “It was like Genesis in the bible but challenged with the moral dilemma of their relationships within the parameters of the situation they can’t avoid”.

Stranded Pearl offers a Cook Islands take on the lost at sea story. After a storm leaves Julia (Australian Kristy Wright of Home and Away fame) stranded on an island, she must learn to cooperate with the only other person there, a quiet man called Sid (Aunanda Naaido, Curry Munchers). Unbeknown to Julia, Sid is on the run from New Zealand police. The romantic adventure flick was shot in Rarotonga, and features appearances by veteran actors Rawiri Paratene and Ray Woolf. Actor Naaido also produced Stranded Pearl, while on a break from his day job as a chief financial officer in Rarotonga.
