GHOSTLIGHT: A FILM ABOUT FAMILY, ART, HUMOR & HEALING
After premiering at Sundance this year, Ghostlight has impressed audiences and critics alike with its touching and gently comic tale of the healing power of art. With 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and a high placing on Letterboxd's Top 10 films of the year.
Alex Thompson and Kelly O'Sullivan’s moving, gently comic collaboration is about the power of
live theater to make sense of our offstage dramas and personal narratives. Ghostlight centers
on Dan (Keith Kupferer), a melancholic middle-aged construction worker grieving a family
tragedy.
Cut off from his devoted wife, Sharon (Tara Mallen), and talented but troubled
daughter, Daisy (Katherine Mallen Kupferer), Dan finds comfort and community in a misfit
company of amateur actors. While moonlighting in a low-rent production of Shakespeare’s most
protean tragedy, Dan is forced to confront his buried emotions.
Real-life family Mallen, Kupferer, and Mallen Kupferer bring tenderness and authenticity to this poignant portrait, while Dolly de Leon — last seen stealing the scene in Triangle of Sadness — is hilarious as Dan’s irascible, improbable co-star.

"Marguerite’s Theorem is a worthy contemplation of a gifted student venturing into the “real world” that showcases maths and emotions can in fact mix." Emily Maskel, A Good Movie to Watch.
"Marguerite’s Theorem is an Olympian feat involving walls of calculations. More interesting is the relationship Marguerite has with another student, Lucas (Julien Frison), and her friendship with Noa (Sonia Bonny), who’s another kind of trailblazer altogether." Jen Shieff, NZ Herald
Special Screening at the Cannes Official Selection

Karioi Quilts & Crafts - second Thursday of every month.
The Karioi Quilters have been making high quality, natural fibre, artistic quilts for many years. Primarily a patchwork and quilting group, the members meet to share knowledge and skills and enjoy creating in good company.
From 2023, we changed the name to Karioi Quilts and Crafts to open the group up to other crafters.
Members can work on their own projects ranging from quilts, sewing projects and you can even bring your knitting, as long as it’s not a messy craft anything goes. New members are always welcome to come along to work on their own projects and learn techniques from a group of very creative craftspeople.
Group co-ordinator is Sue Webber 021 489944
Meetings are held at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre from 10am to 1pm (sometimes 3pm if the room is available) on the second Thursday of every month. 10 sessions per year from February to December. Subscription is $30 per year which goes towards room hire.

Set in the stunning scenery of the South Pacific, with drama, action and comedy at every turn, it tells the story of a woman who learns that her life is half lived, and a man who has closed himself off from the world to hide from the pain of his past.

The lives of two strangers are changed forever when they cross paths on the surfing adventure of a lifetime, discovering love, downshifting and four Chilean horses.

Graeme Tuckett STUFF/ THE POST 4/5 “The Road to Patagonia is an astonishing film to look at. Matty has a great eye for a frame and he sets up his cameras to drink in some glorious slices of nature. And his own and Heather’s narration – some of it recorded on the road – is economical, quite unflinching and heartfelt.”
The Road to Patagonia is a stunning, intimate and unflinching series of love letters within a documentary – firstly a love between two people, and secondly between humanity and the Earth. We follow Matty Hannon on an incredible solo adventure, to surf the west coast of the Americas by motorbike, from the top of Alaska to the tip of Patagonia.
But deep in the wilderness - alone with the wolves and the bears – Matty’s plans unexpectedly fall to pieces. After losing everything, and on the cusp of quitting he meets the girl of his dreams, a permaculture farmer named Heather Hillier who throws caution to the wind and sells her urban-farm to buy a bike of her own. Together riding south, the duo meet with Zapatista rebels, Amazonian shamans and Mapuche leaders whose salient words crack the adventurers’ cultural veneer.
The theme of deep ecology underpins the entire film, visually communicated through exquisite cinematography and emotional verité sequences. Shot over 16 years, the result is an adventurous exposé on the more-than-human world, offering a physical and spiritual odyssey to better understand our place in Nature.

There’s something instantly captivating about the music of nineteen-year-old Beth Torrance. She skilfully simmers our most deep and untameable feelings down to their purest form, offering them to the world as songs that are poetic, potent, and true.
Beth is celebrating the release of her debut EP, Tiny Flowers (via Particle Recordings), with a tour of Te Ika-a-Māui. She’ll kick off in her hometown of Tāmaki Makaurau before heading down to Raglan, Thames, and finishing in Pōneke.
‘Vocally, her delivery is incredible, emotive, and rare. [Beth’s] talent for crafting lyrics is surpassed by very few of her contemporaries and is what sets her apart’ — Ear to the Ground
‘[Tiny Flowers] is a tender and airy atmospheric blend of folk with a haunted presence with a significant emotional weight that feels like it blends the power of Adrianne Lenker with Phoebe Bridgers into something that is quite hard to shake’ — We All Want Someone to Shout For

When 93-year-old Thelma Post (Oscar nominee June Squibb) gets duped by a phone scammer pretending to be her grandson, she sets out on a treacherous quest across the city to reclaim what was taken from her. A story exploring aging, family, and autonomy (and uniquely inspired by action movies like “Mission: Impossible”) – the film is based on a real-life experience of writer/director Josh Margolin’s grandmother, and marks Squibb’s first leading film role of her 70+ year career. This action comedy also stars Parker Posey, Richard Roundtree, Clark Gregg, Malcolm McDowell, and Fred Hechinger.

There is a lot of story to tell, in the events that led to the fall of Ōrākau, and Ka Whawhai Tonu covers a lot of ground, but still finds time for some of the more bonkers true-to-life details that transpired.
Graeme Tuckett STUFF/ WAIKATO TIMES 4/5 “Ka Whawhai Tonu – Struggle Without End: A welcome depiction of some indelible New Zealand history”

This heroic conflict is told through the eyes of two young teenagers forced to take control of their own destiny amidst the chaos of the battle and their escape.
