Apr 19: TimeLiners on Tour

The TimeLiners are:

• Neil Worboys – Vocals, Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin, Harmonica, Kazoo
• Maurice Priestley – Vocals, Guitar, Mandolin, Banjo
• Stephen Carlyle – Vocals, Bass, Accordion, Guitar, Percussion

Neil, Maurice and Stephen have been playing the blues together on and off since 1987 when they were all living in Gisborne. At the time Neil was a teaching principal at Te Reinga School, between Wairoa and Gisborne

Neil had formed Bulldogs All-star Goodtime Band at Wellington Teachers Training College in the early 1970s. That band went on to win the TV talent show New Faces, had some chart success with ‘Miss September’ and ‘Everyone Knows’, and tour professionally in the mid-70s.

Neil has continued to write and perform in bands right up to this day including touring as a member of Hogsnort Rupert. He is currently playing in Wellington Heads, a rhythm n blues band, as well as the Kelburn Viaduct Municipal Ensemble Jug Band (KVMeJB) along with Maurice and Steve.

Maurice Priestley was operating a recording studio and music production business in Gisborne through the ‘80s and was already playing music with his brother-in-law Stephen Carlyle in a variety of bands and settings. Neil, Maurice and Stephen came together in The Customliners with other Gissy musos, the first of a series of …liner bands. The Customliners recorded some of Neil and Stephen’s original material at Maurice’s Capture Recording studio.

Neil returned to Wellington in 1993 and when Maurice moved to Wellington in 2000, they collaborated on a project to record Neil’s songs and formed Neil Worboys and the Real Time Liners. The CD album ‘Some Day Soon’ was released in 2008. Stephen also moved to Wellington about that time and joined the Real Time Liner band post-recording project on bass.

Neil, Maurice and Stephen currently play together in the Kelburn Viaduct Municipal Ensemble Jug Band(KVMeJB) which recorded a CD album ‘Stomp Around the Floor’ in 2015.

The kaupapa of the tour is to perform, live, material from the various recording projects along with newer material which naturally springs from Neil and his cohorts. The repertoire also includes examples of the music that inspired the individual members of the group to start playing and creating their own material.
