This is an amazing opportunity for our emerging artists to present their spirit and artistic style to their own community, as well as a gifting back from our established artists who return to share their evolving work and careers with us all. In what has become a Live & Local tradition for NZ Music Month, the Blister Sisters present a selection of Kiwi hits, old and new, for your entertainment pleasure. Curiously unrestrained by good taste and decorum, which anthems of our collective youth are they going to uke-ify this time?

Parabola West whose music offers a lush soundscape of old-world folk + new-age electronica, ethereal vocals, and a dash of fantasy. It’s modern music for your ancient, magical soul.

Her music has been been featured in Woman’s Day NZ Magazine, NZ Musician Magazine, and Enchanted Living / Faerie Magazine.

And Rata Gordon who is a writer, educator, creative arts therapist and mama based in Whāingaroa. Rata's poetry has been published widely including in Best New Zealand Poems. Women and the Wind is a project aimed at igniting the flames of curiosity and adventure which lay dormant within so many of us, by deepening our understanding of the synergy between nature and humanity—and by doing so radically. This project is led by a group of women and realized through a voyage across the North Atlantic on Mara Noka, a 50-year-old wooden catamaran. Motivated by Kiana’s first North Atlantic crossing in 2019, where she witnessed a plastic-littered ocean, Mara Noka and Kiana, joined by filmmaker Alizé Jireh and environmentalist Lærke Heilmann, set off across the North Atlantic again in 2022 to follow plastic pollution on its ride to Europe via the Gulf Stream. Throughout the entirety of the voyage, larger floating debris including fishing nets, buckets, bottles, plastic bags, and nylon ropes were constant companions. Though the initial intention of the film was to focus mainly on telling this story of plastic, the voyage took on a much more personal tone as the days progressed. The women were then faced with the reality of life at sea aboard a boat, for 30 days, with no space from each other or themselves. Calms and tempests reflected their own inner workings, and an entire moon’s cycle on the ocean brought their femininity to the forefront. This moving documentary is sponsored by Kiwis for Good, a mental health charity promoting innovative approaches to mental health and wellbeing. The movie features locals who are clients, students and practitioners of Havening Techniques who got together in Raglan to forge a new future for mental health care. This beautifully crafted film captures the Raglan vibe and setting with stories that will move and inspire you. The title song is donated by multi-award-winning artist Taisha Tari. After the Raglan premiere, the film will be launched internationally, once again putting Raglan in the spotlight. EVERYONE WELCOME The Karioi Quilters have been making high quality, natural fibre, artistic quilts for many years. Primarily a patchwork and quilting group, the members meet to share knowledge and skills and enjoy creating in good company. From 2023, we changed the name to Karioi Quilts and Crafts to open the group up to other crafters. Members can work on their own projects ranging from quilts, sewing projects and you can even bring your knitting, as long as it’s not a messy craft anything goes. New members are always welcome to come along to work on their own projects and learn techniques from a group of very creative craftspeople. Women and the Wind is a project aimed at igniting the flames of curiosity and adventure which lay dormant within so many of us, by deepening our understanding of the synergy between nature and humanity—and by doing so radically. This project is led by a group of women and realized through a voyage across the North Atlantic on Mara Noka, a 50-year-old wooden catamaran. Motivated by Kiana’s first North Atlantic crossing in 2019, where she witnessed a plastic-littered ocean, Mara Noka and Kiana, joined by filmmaker Alizé Jireh and environmentalist Lærke Heilmann, set off across the North Atlantic again in 2022 to follow plastic pollution on its ride to Europe via the Gulf Stream. Throughout the entirety of the voyage, larger floating debris including fishing nets, buckets, bottles, plastic bags, and nylon ropes were constant companions. Though the initial intention of the film was to focus mainly on telling this story of plastic, the voyage took on a much more personal tone as the days progressed. The women were then faced with the reality of life at sea aboard a boat, for 30 days, with no space from each other or themselves.
