Dave Flynn’s Celtic Guitar Journey II: The Return of the Guitar Maestro - book tickets here Creative Raglan Events – top arts events in Raglan
"Dave Flynn is a masterful guitarist." – Sing Out! Magazine
Award-winning Irish-Kiwi guitarist/composer Dave Flynn returns to New Zealand with an exciting expansion of his acclaimed show Celtic Guitar Journey. For his extensive Summer/Autumn 2025 tour of Aotearoa, Flynn will blend familiar Celtic sounds with fresh flavours from his global travels.
From Ireland to Andalucía and Beyond
A new dimension to Flynn’s Celtic guitar style is the exhilarating, percussive sounds of Flamenco. Recent studies in Andalucía with a flamenco guitar master have inspired Flynn to bring Celtic Guitar Journey into new avenues. Connections between Irish and Spanish music come alive in the Rumba Reel, whilst Galician and Irish jigs dance in unison. New arrangements of music from Brittany (France) and Cape Breton (Canada) further his explorations of global Celtic culture.
Kiwi Connections
Praised by the New York Times for the "power and grittiness" of his music, Flynn’s latest compositions reflect the landscapes and cultures he’s encountered during his decade-long travels around New Zealand. These Irish-Kiwi pieces combine the beauty of Celtic music with the unique spirit of Aotearoa, offering a distinctive musical journey that blends his Irish heritage with his adopted second home.
What to Expect
Whether you’re new to Flynn’s music or a regular at his annual NZ shows, the 2025 tour promises a vibrant mix of new compositions and familiar favourites, including:
- The Irish haka ‘O’Neill’s March’, enlivened with a hint of Flamenco.
- Intricate, soulful arrangements of O'Carolan’s baroque harp music.
- The infectious energy of Celtic jigs and reels, spanning centuries of tradition.
An Immersive Journey
Flynn’s performances are more than just concerts—they’re immersive journeys through heritage and history. With his virtuosic guitar playing and engaging storytelling, he brings new life to the rich tapestry and heritage of Celtic music.
Connecting continents, traditions, and generations - don’t miss the chance to experience Dave Flynn’s latest Celtic Guitar Journey around New Zealand/Aotearoa.

Glinda
After two decades as one of the most beloved and enduring musicals on the stage, Wicked makes its long-awaited journey to the big screen as a spectacular, generation-defining cinematic event.
Wicked, the untold story of the witches of Oz, stars Emmy, Grammy and Tony winning powerhouse Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, Broadway’s The Color Purple) as Elphaba, a young woman, misunderstood because of her unusual green skin, who has yet to discover her true power, and Grammy-winning, multi-platinum recording artist and global superstar Ariana Grande as Glinda, a popular young woman, gilded by privilege and ambition, who has yet to discover her true heart.
The two meet as students at Shiz University in the fantastical Land of Oz and forge an unlikely but profound friendship. Following an encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their friendship reaches a crossroads and their lives take very different paths. Glinda's unflinching desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba's determination to remain true to herself, and to those around her, will have unexpected and shocking consequences on her future. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfill their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Karioi Quilts & Crafts - second Thursday of every month.
EVERYONE WELCOME
The Karioi Quilters have been making high quality, natural fibre, artistic quilts for many years. Primarily a patchwork and quilting group, the members meet to share knowledge and skills and enjoy creating in good company.
From 2023, we changed the name to Karioi Quilts and Crafts to open the group up to other crafters.
Members can work on their own projects ranging from quilts, sewing projects and you can even bring your knitting, as long as it’s not a messy craft anything goes. New members are always welcome to come along to work on their own projects and learn techniques from a group of very creative craftspeople.
Group co-ordinator is Sue Webber 021 489944
Meetings are held at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre from 10am to 1pm (sometimes 3pm if the room is available) on the second Thursday of every month. 10 sessions per year from February to December. Subscription is $30 per year which goes towards room hire.

Yin Yoga. This class is a slower-paced, more meditative version of the popular physical and spiritual discipline of yoga. In Yin yoga, the poses are held for a long period of time (typically three to five minutes or longer) to target the connective tissues (such as the ligaments) rather than focusing on the muscles. Every Monday at 6pm. Free for Raglan Gym members, casual $20. No drop-ins, book online on the Raglan Gym website

Yoga flow. Raglan Gym classes are a great place to start from any level. We do not offer any one particular style however we gather our teaching essence from all of the lineages, which our teachers have practiced and studied. The basis of our teaching is on the principles of breath (pranayama), movement (asana) and awareness (meditation). We employ these principles as the basis of our four class styles and we welcome you as a beginner or more advanced yoga practitioner. Yoga promotes not only muscle toning, but also you benefit from increased endurance and flexibility. Good for all levels. Free for Gym members, casual $20. No drop-ins, book online on the Raglan Gym website

By special request, THE BIG BIKE FILM NIGHT is coming to Raglan for the first time.
"Much more than mountain biking films. This was a beautifully curated collection of films each with its own story and while riding bikes was central to most the films were about so much more and would appeal to a much broader group than just keen riders.
5 stars Very cool event showcasing a great diversity of bike-related adventure and history from all around the world."
The 2025 treasure chest of films includes:-
- an exhilarating film that redefines what’s possible on a gravel bike on technically challenging terrains
- a heartwarming documentary that explores the importance of getting outside, no matter where one is on life’s journey
- an uplifting film that follows a group of local bike and snow enthusiasts from Wānaka, who have the desire to bring positive social change to their local community through an annual “bikepack” to the local Ski Resort with all their gear
- a celebration of grit, camaraderie, and the beauty of “Type 2 Fun”, this film is an ode to the ride, not the finish line
- an inspiring mountain bike ride through back country Queenstown that is both poetic and meaningful
- a life-changing experience for a group of friends who undertake a trip to a bothie (hut) in the Highlands of Scotland to show what can be achieved by people with disabilities in relation to having adventures
- a film that celebrates the art of “winging it” and how travelling by bicycle and the power of exploration can obliterate preconceptions and contribute to understanding others
- and a classic Kiwi story of a young trailblazer participating in a gruelling six-day mountain bike rally, exploring his boundaries with his own signature entirely unsupported style -fueled by a penchant for chocolate milk
ALL in the mix!
