Movie- THE RETURN (4.45pm)

April 5, 2025

Reunited for the first time since The English Patient, Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche star in this gritty retelling of Odysseus' return home from war.

You won't want to miss two of the greatest actors of their generation take on Homer's classic tale in The Return.

"Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche shine." - The Hollywood Reporter

After 20 years away, Odysseus (Fiennes) washes up on the shores of Ithaca, haggard and unrecognisable. The King has finally returned home but much has changed in his kingdom since he left to fight in the Trojan war.

His beloved wife Penelope (Binoche) is now a prisoner in her own home, hounded by her many ambitious suitors to choose a new husband, a new king. Their son Telemachus, who has grown up fatherless, is facing death at the hands of the suitors who see him as an obstacle in their relentless pursuit of Penelope and the kingdom.

Odysseus has changed too. Scarred by his experience of war, he is no longer the mighty warrior his people remember. But he is forced to face his past in order to rediscover the strength needed to save his family and win back the love he has lost.

DIRECTOR: Uberto Pasolini
STARRING: Ralph Fiennes, Juliette Binoche

Movie- BIG BIKE FILM NIGHT (7.30pm)

Movie- BIG BIKE FILM NIGHT (7.30pm)

April 5, 2025

By special request, THE BIG BIKE FILM NIGHT is coming to Raglan for the first time.

"Much more than mountain biking films. This was a beautifully curated collection of films each with its own story and while riding bikes was central to most the films were about so much more and would appeal to a much broader group than just keen riders.
5 stars Very cool event showcasing a great diversity of bike-related adventure and history from all around the world."

The 2025 treasure chest of films includes:-

  • an exhilarating film that redefines what’s possible on a gravel bike on technically challenging terrains
  • a heartwarming documentary that explores the importance of getting outside, no matter where one is on life’s journey
  • an uplifting film that follows a group of local bike and snow enthusiasts from Wānaka, who have the desire to bring positive social change to their local community through an annual “bikepack” to the local Ski Resort with all their gear
  • a celebration of grit, camaraderie, and the beauty of “Type 2 Fun”, this film is an ode to the ride, not the finish line
  • an inspiring mountain bike ride through back country Queenstown that is both poetic and meaningful
  • a life-changing experience for a group of friends who undertake a trip to a bothie (hut) in the Highlands of Scotland to show what can be achieved by people with disabilities in relation to having adventures
  • a film that celebrates the art of “winging it” and how travelling by bicycle and the power of exploration can obliterate preconceptions and contribute to understanding others
  • and a classic Kiwi story of a young trailblazer participating in a gruelling six-day mountain bike rally, exploring his boundaries with his own signature entirely unsupported style -fueled by a penchant for chocolate milk
    ALL in the mix!

April 19, 2025

Based on the incredible true story of Australian war correspondent Peter Greste’s arrest and imprisonment in Egypt in 2013, THE CORRESPONDENT is a gripping thriller.

"The Correspondent is a skilful true life tale of the war on journalism." 4/5 Stars Simon Morris, Radio NZ

"If you know Greste’s story you will know what happens. Even so, you will feel the close-quarters tension of this Kafkaesque story of a man put in jail, and then in front of a kangaroo court, for doing his job." 4/5 Stars Stephen Romei, The Australian

While covering the news desk in Cairo for a colleague over the Christmas holidays, Australian journalist Peter Greste is arrested and accused of terrorism. He has become a pawn in the middle of a deadly game full of corrupt officials and ancient rivalries. Now the subject of his own worldwide news story, with only his wits and unlikely allies keeping him alive, Greste’s very survival means staring down a brutal regime. THE CORRESPONDENT is a gripping thriller and a compelling true story about the relentless defence of the truth and triumph of the human spirit. Starring Richard Roxburgh as Peter Greste and directed by Kriv Stenders (Red Dog).

Movie- WOMEN & THE WIND (4.30pm)

Movie- WOMEN & THE WIND (4.30pm)

April 20, 2025

WORLD PREMIERE TOUR from 19th April: Wilmington, USA; Paris, France; Sao Paulo, Brazil

Three women ignite flames of curiosity through a voyage following plastic across the North Atlantic on Mara Noka, a 50-year-old wooden catamaran.

Women and the Wind is a project aimed at igniting the flames of curiosity and adventure which lay dormant within so many of us, by deepening our understanding of the synergy between nature and humanity—and by doing so radically. This project is led by a group of women and realized through a voyage across the North Atlantic on Mara Noka, a 50-year-old wooden catamaran.

Motivated by Kiana’s first North Atlantic crossing in 2019, where she witnessed a plastic-littered ocean, Mara Noka and Kiana, joined by filmmaker Alizé Jireh and environmentalist Lærke Heilmann, set off across the North Atlantic again in 2022 to follow plastic pollution on its ride to Europe via the Gulf Stream. Throughout the entirety of the voyage, larger floating debris including fishing nets, buckets, bottles, plastic bags, and nylon ropes were constant companions.

Though the initial intention of the film was to focus mainly on telling this story of plastic, the voyage took on a much more personal tone as the days progressed. The women were then faced with the reality of life at sea aboard a boat, for 30 days, with no space from each other or themselves. Calms and tempests reflected their own inner workings, and an entire moon’s cycle on the ocean brought their femininity to the forefront. They experienced their fragility and their strengths with an intensity that is unmatched, transforming this film into an intimate portrayal of woman and nature.

Directed by: Alizé Jireh, Kiana Weltzien, Lærke Heilmann

Director of Photography: Alizé Jireh

Produced by: Angie Richard

Bob Dylan - He defied everyone to change everything.

At the Newport Folk Festival in 1965, a young Bob Dylan shakes up his act on the folk music scene by going electric and siring rock as the voice of a generation.

"But, what is here is still mostly excellent. The staging is gorgeous, the performances are exceptional and the writing never blunders by trying to explain Dylan or pin him down." - 4.0/5 Stars  Graeme Tuckett, Stuff/ Waikato Times

New York, early 1960s. Against the backdrop of a vibrant music scene and tumultuous cultural upheaval, an enigmatic 19-year-old from Minnesota arrives in the West Village with his guitar and revolutionary talent, destined to change the course of American music.

As he forms his most intimate relationships during his rise to fame, he grows restless with the folk movement and, refusing to be defined, makes a controversial choice that culturally reverberates worldwide. Timothée Chalamet stars and sings as Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s A COMPLETE UNKNOWN, the electric true story behind the rise of one of the most iconic singer-songwriters in history.

Movie- WOMEN & THE WIND (7.30pm)

May 3, 2025

DIRECTOR: James Mangold
STARRING: Timothée Chalamet, Elle Fanning, Scoot McNairy, Dan Fogler, Boyd Holbrook, Edward Norton, Norbert Leo Butz, Monica Barbaro

"A terrifically well-crafted thriller", Dan Slevin, NZ Listener

Conclave is set in the secretive Vatican meeting of Catholic cardinals who gather in Rome to pick a new Pope. Fiennes plays Cardinal Lomeli, tasked with overseeing the Cardinals arriving from across the globe to join the Conclave. But as the political machinations inside the Vatican intensify, Lomeli realizes that the departed Pope had kept a secret from them that he must uncover before a new Pope has been chosen.

Conclave is based on a bestselling novel by Robert Harris, and Peter Straughan's Golden Globe winning script hews pretty closely to the bones of the book.
