Jen Shieff NZ Herald - MUST SEE "Mature audiences of all ages will find Allelujah an important, eye-opening film. It tells a good story too, culminating in something truly startling. Excellent film-making."
Based on the Play by ALAN BENNETT
Jennifer Saunders stars in ALLELUJAH, a Yorkshire-set drama. The threatened closure of a geriatric ward in a small Yorkshire hospital stirs an uprising from the local community, who invite a news crew to film preparations for a concert in honour of the hospital’s most distinguished nurse.

Director: Richard Eyre
Cast: Judi Dench, Jennifer Saunders, Bally Gill, Russell Tovey, David Bradley, Derek Jacobi

James Croot Waikato Times/ Stuff 4/5 Stars "A surprisingly subtle, sweet and absorbing drama whose fractured narrative and melodramatic backstory might not initially appeal to all, but will eventually win you over."When taxi driver Charles reluctantly takes on an early-morning booking, he begins to regret his decision even more so when a cantankerous old woman, Madeleine is waiting begrudgingly at the pickup point. As the journey unfolds, so does the story of Madeleine's long and eventful life - guiding the audience through her most monumental experiences, from romance to earth-shattering heartbreak. Described by Renaud, as "the most beautiful film of my life," rediscover the power of the kindness of strangers in Christian Carion's latest cheerful, heart-warmer.

Karioi Quilts & Crafts - second Thursday of every month.
The Karioi Quilters have been making high quality, natural fibre, artistic quilts for many years. Primarily a patchwork and quilting group, the members meet to share knowledge and skills and enjoy creating in good company.
This year, 2023, we changed the name to Karioi Quilts and Crafts to open the group up to other crafters.
Members can work on their own projects ranging from quilts, sewing projects and you can even bring your knitting, as long as it’s not a messy craft anything goes. New members are always welcome to come along to work on their own projects and learn techniques from a group of very creative craftspeople.
Group co-ordinator is Sue Webber 021 489944
Meetings are held at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre from 10am to 1pm (sometimes 3pm if the room is available) on the second Thursday of every month. 10 sessions per year from February to December. Subscription is $30 per year which goes towards room hire.

Hard work and big ideas aren't enough
Francesca Rudkin Newstalk “Uplifting & heartwarming” & “A wonderful ride”
Based on a true story, French comedy Country Cabaret has been a hit at this year's L'OR French Film Festival Aotearoa
David's dairy farm is on the brink of liquidation. When he chances upon a dazzling nightclub performance by Bonnie Starlight, inspiration strikes. What if he turned his big old barn into a country cabaret? Not just for entertainment, but to promote local food producers, including his mother's delicious cheese. A crazy plan, for sure - which is exactly why he loves it!
David has to convince sophisticated “City Girl” Bonnie to live in a converted barn loft out in the middle of nowhere and work around the clock to make a great show out of nothing. Finding local talent is no small feat either, but together they manage to assemble a zany cast of characters and create a troupe. Through blood sweat and tears, and a whole lot of laughs, they not only build a great stage and get their act together, they also learn a thing or two about themselves and each other.
Everything seems on track for the big opening night, until David's traditionalist grandpa steps in, hell-bent on putting an end to their follies. Can they save the show and save the farm?
Director: Jean-Pierre Améris
Cast: Alban Ivanov, Sabrina Ouazani, Guy Marchand, Moussa Maaskri, Michèle Bernier, Bérengère Krief

Sorry 8pm session on 15th July cancelled as we don't have enough volunteers.
It’s never too late to love.
Waikato Times/ Stuff Graeme Tuckett 4/5 stars "Smart and insightful, Sailor is a winner."
Irish Times 4/5 stars "It would not ... be right to describe My Sailor, My Love as any sort of soapy romance. Jimmy Karlsson and Kirsi Vikman’s screenplay fleshes out a cluster of circling characters with great incisiveness."
The Guardian 3/5 stars "Beautifully nuanced performances underpin an interesting drama that evolves from late-life romance into study of family trauma across generations."
My Sailor My Love
Howard, an unwillingly retired sea captain, withers in his isolation. When his daughter Grace hires Annie as housekeeper, he reacts with contempt and fires her as soon as he gets the chance. But realizing he misbehaved, he asks her to come back. Annie demands his respect and starts visiting Howard regularly. Howard becomes devoted to Annie’s family - with a new positive and caring attitude. He has fallen in love.
Howard and Annie making off - My Sailor My Love
When Grace comes visiting over Christmas she finds that Annie lives there and has invited her entire family to celebrate. Grace burst into tears. How dare Howard open his home to these strangers while pushing away his own daughter? Grace gets a job in the town and wants to move in with her father. But he refuses. Grace writes a letter to Annie, telling her Howard is just using her for egotistic reasons.
Howard is not the person Annie thinks he is. Now Annie doesn’t know what to believe. Grace orders Annie to leave Howard. Grace moves in with Howard to take care of him. She seeks reconciliation but Howard rejects her. Desperately he tries to contact Annie, but in vain. Finally, he tries to run away but is struck with a stroke. He is bedridden in the elderly home. Annie visits and they confirm their true love for each other. When Howard dies, Grace arrives too late to be there with him. Grace is now completely alone and grieving in the country house. When she finally calls Annie to thank her for being with Howard, she breaks down, realizing she could never reclaim Howards’ love and affection. She pulls herself together and leaves the house for a new beginning.

My Sailor My Love
Howard, an unwillingly retired sea captain, withers in his isolation. When his daughter Grace hires Annie as housekeeper, he reacts with contempt and fires her as soon as he gets the chance.

Swellnet Stu Nettle "The surfing sequences, especially at the left, have gotta be seen in the context of discovery; of disappearing over the frontier, far from comfort or help. Many waves are repeated, filmed from two angles, which betrays a low wave count, but also the difficulties faced - every wave was a victory of sorts."
Follow filmmakers Spencer Frost and Guy Williment and surfers Letty Mortenson and Fraser Dovell as they journey to Kamchatka in the far east of Russia in search of new waves along the frozen, unexplored coastline.
Bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Okhotsk with more than 150 volcanoes (29 active) the Kamchatka Peninsula in Far Eastern Russia is as remote as it is unique. After two years of planning the trip was almost over before it started. An hour before boarding their flight to Moscow, Russia invaded Ukraine. At a time when the world was seeing the worst of human nature, these guys flew behind the iron curtain and found, to their surprise the best of it. Mi-8 helicopters, skidoos, frozen campsites, and frozen bank accounts, this surf trip quickly became far more than anyone could imagine.

Based on a true story, French comedy Country Cabaret has been a hit at this year's L'OR French Film Festival Aotearoa
David's dairy farm is on the brink of liquidation. When he chances upon a dazzling nightclub performance by Bonnie Starlight, inspiration strikes.
