Venue Hire

The Old School Arts Centre is run by the Raglan Community Arts Council Inc., a registered charity. Rooms and facilities are available for rent on a casual or regular basis. Off street parking is available in the front courtyard. To see for yourself the spaces we have on offer please contact the office info@raglanartscentre.co.nz or call 07 825 0023.

Accessibility

There is an accessible toilet in the Old School building. Accessible parking and a ramp is available behind the Old School. Drive down the lane at the right of the Old School building. If you need assistance push the call button on the corner verandah post below the Accessible Assistance sign. It rings a chime in the office (open 10am – 2pm Mon-Fri). The ramp provides access to the lobby/ linkway connecting to the Old School building and the St Lazarus building. The steps at the front door of the Old School have a handrail.

In the lobby/linkway there is an accessible staircase to the theatre workshop, upstairs in the Creative Space building behind the Old School. Wheelchair access is available to the Whare Tapere via a lift.

Whare o Tuaiwa Rickard | Eva’s Room

Eva’s Room is in the Old School heritage building and is a private and charming room situated on the ground floor. An ideal venue for small events – hold your classes, meetings, or small conferences here. Eva’s Room is also suitable for house concert-style intimate performances.

The room is equipped with a screen and a video projector. A home theatre system can be provided to show DCP, e-cinema and DVD/Blu-ray movies. A sound system is also available and there is a piano in the room.

If appropriate, you can use the basic kitchen facilities in the foyer to serve hot drinks and snacks – prior agreement required.

The size is 48 square metres (8 metres by 6 metres) and it can be set up in various configurations using folding tables (available by prior agreement).

Taiwhanga Whakaatu Toi | Community Gallery

The Community Gallery at Old School Arts Centre is available for exhibitions. We offer a high-profile space, and substantial sales and promotion opportunities.
Exhibition opportunities are available for established, emerging artists and community groups.
Call in and talk to staff, pick up (or download below) the gallery hire document, or fill in the online form. There are options available for help with marketing. It’s a great place to start or continue to build your exhibition record.

Taiwhanga Mahi Toi | St Lazarus Art Studio

The Art Studio is located in the St Lazarus annex. It is equipped with with basins and with easy to clean flooring in order to accommodate arts practices that require use of water – eg painting, dying. Easels are available.

Whare Tunu Kai | Commercial Kitchen

The kitchen in the St Lazarus annex is designed for commercial food preparation activities and is available for hire. It is also available for catering of events at the Old School Arts Centre.

Whare Tapere | Theatre Workshop upstairs in the Creative Space building

The 1st floor Theatre Workshop in the Creative Space building is part of our new 2020 building designed to provide extra facilities for the community. Accommodating up to 50 people seated, the Theatre Workshop is ideal for theatre performances, rehearsals, performing arts workshops, dance and physical practice classes (yoga, Nia, Qi-gong etc.). The size of the Theatre Workshop is 92 sq. metres (11.5 metres by 8 metres). There is a large screen and a 16 square metre stage raised 450mm above floor level. A retractable seating unit providing 35 comfortable raked seats is installed and additional seats are available. There is a small Green Room (capacity two people) with tea and coffee facilities. Whare Tapere is upstairs – wheelchair access via lift.

Music performances/Gigs and Theatre

Eva’s Room or Whare Tapere. Whare Tapere is larger and modern, with retractable raked seating and a small stage. Eva’s Room is cosy and atmospheric.

The theatre/ music space rental fee is $150 with performers keeping the door. On Saturday nights only, you can opt to share 50:50 door sales between artist and RCAC, with the door fee set at $20 per person. This fee includes promotion in our monthly What’s On newsletter, poster distribution, website and Facebook listings plus an advert in the Raglan Chronicle. A sound system is available. With two months notice the Arts Centre can open its Foyer or Linkway Cafe & Bar. If you’d like to host a gig, talk to our coordinators. Find a copy of our music venue rental form below.

Meetings

Eva’s Room. Audiovisual equipment is available for an extra fee and you are welcome to use our wifi. Tea and coffee can be made in the smaill foyer kitchen area.

Gallery plus foyer for food/drinks. With two months notice the Arts Centre can open its Foyer Cafe & Bar.
