Zasha Skye Exhibition ‘The Colour in You’
Taiwhanga Whakaatu | The Gallery at the Old School, 5 Stewart St, Raglan,
10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Open Sunday 9th January 10am – 2pm and then weekdays 10am – 2pm until February 11.
Zasha Skye Exhibition ‘The Colour in You’ – curated oil paintings. The exhibition will also feature a series of photographs by Sven Seddon.
Zasha Skye
Using oil paint on canvas, the 20-year-old explores texture and form to create a systematic piece, within an impressionistic style. A first exhibition for the young creative, Zasha was inspired by modern youth and the connections that surround each individual “I wanted to explore colour and how colours can portray your inner emotions,” she says.
Taking her art to the next step, Zasha began studying in 2021 for a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Whitecliffe College of Arts and Design, a premier arts institute in Auckland. “I find being surrounded by like-minded students is continuously inspiring and motivating.”
Having grown up in Whaingaroa, she has been inspired by being surrounded by a strong art-filled community. “This allows for a massive amount of support that I am truly grateful for.” Zasha says she has always been interested in textures from clay to paint and around the age of 16 she began exploring oil paint and how it can be used over a canvas.

Karioi Quilters - second Thursday of every month.
The Karioi Quilters have been making high quality, natural fibre, artistic quilts for many years. A patchwork and quilting group, the members meet to share knowledge and skills and enjoy creating in good company.
Members work on their own projects ranging from cot to queen-sized quilts. Many long enjoyable hours are spent working on intricate artistic fabric creations. A focus on pure natural fibres, especially cottons, results in high quality handworks which often become treasured family items. Group co-ordinator is Judy Levy.
New members are always welcome to come along to these casual meetings to work on their own projects and learn quilting techniques from a group of very creative craftspeople.
Meetings are held at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre from 10am to 1pm on the second Thursday of every month. So join them for a coffee and bring your lunch. Donation of $2 to help with the rent.

Doc Edge 2021 Film Festival: Winner, Best New Zealand Editing – Thomas Gleeson
In 2019 students worldwide took to the streets demanding immediate climate change action. The Rebel Film Collective documented a group of Kiwi teenagers preparing for the protest in New Zealand. As the young organisers bring the Aotearoa School Strike 4 Climate movement together, a painful truth emerges; climate change has a disproportionate effect on indigenous people. Kiwi-Pasifika poet Aigagaleifili Fepulea'i Tapua'i forms a breakaway group to ensure climate change impacts on Pacific nations is acknowledged.
Director: Phil Stebbing, Niva Kay, Emily McDowell

Golden Globes Winner: Best Drama Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor. Silver Lion for Best Direction at Venice Film Festival. Top 10 Film - American Film Institute.
Filmed in the South Island.
The year is 1925. The Burbank brothers (Cumberbatch & Plemons) are wealthy ranchers in Montana. At the Red Mill restaurant on their way to market, the brothers meet Rose (Dunst), the widowed proprietress, and her impressionable son Peter (Smit-McPhee). Phil (Cumberbatch) behaves so cruelly he drives them both to tears, reveling in their hurt and rousing his fellow cowhands to laughter - all except his brother George (Plemons), who comforts Rose then returns to marry her.
As Phil swings between fury and cunning, his taunting of Rose takes an eerie form - he hovers at the edges of her vision, whistling a tune she can no longer play. His mockery of her son is more overt, amplified by the cheering of Phil's cowhand disciples. Then Phil appears to take the boy under his wing. Is this latest gesture a softening that leaves Phil exposed, or a plot twisting further into menace?
Director: Jane Campion (TV's 'Top of the Lake', 'Bright Star', 'The Piano')
Writer: Jane Campion
Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, Kirsten Dunst, Thomasin McKenzie, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Frances Conroy, Keith Carradine, Peter Carroll, Adam Beach

Featuring Irish band 'The Swabs', comedy from Eleanor Clarke aka Valentine Keen and one more act to be announced.
Valentine Keen, aka Eleanor Clarke, was one of the leads in the 2012 Raglan/Hamilton Summer Shakespeare. Valentine broke up with their corporate job, normy life and their hometown of London, which is when things got interesting! Adventures in their newfound home of Aotearoa have brought them into acting, improvising, telling jokes, many, many festivals and having a generally nice time… But it’s not been all smooth sailing with plenty of scrapes, disasters and some terrible jobs along the way.
If you are interested in performing in future concerts, contact Penni at music@raglanartscentre.co.nz
