Raglan Film Festival: THE 5th EYE

Talk before the movie screening from 6.45pm:

For those split between seeing the 5TH EYE or going to the KASM talk in the Town Hall, you can now have both.  KASM Chairperson, Phil McCabe, is coming prior to the movie to provide a special briefing on the current seabed mining threat. Trans Tasman Resources are back with another proposal to mine the seabed off coastal Taranaki and Waikato.

This will be an informal, short update & discussion with a few photos, commencing promptly at 6.45pm.  All welcome.

THE 5th EYE

This doco from the directors of Operation 8 questions the price of New Zealand’s involvement in the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, and relates the improbable tale of its 2008 sabotage by the Waihopai Three. 

The trio, a farmer, teacher and priest, undertake a daring mission to breach security and deflate a giant radome at the GCSB-run Waihopai spy base in Blenheim, in an act of protest against New Zealand’s involvement in the US-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. An internet millionaire’s mansion is raided sparking an investigation exposing illegal domestic surveillance by the GCSB. While the government rams through law changes legalising spying on its own citizens, an NSA contractor blows the whistle on the Five Eyes network of global mass surveillance. With the rise of the surveillance state in the digital age, and in an era of endless war, new battle lines are drawn in new territories and the enemy is sought out closer to home.

Theatre doors opens 30 minutes before advertised start time. Arrive early if you want a comfy seat. There is a cafe with juice, Bundaberg drinks, popcorn plus yummy food on sale. For licensed sessions wine and beer is available.

Pay at the door by cash or EFTPOS.

The office is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 10am and 2pm for pre-purchase of tickets.

We prefer that reserves are made using the web reservation system as shown below.

Online reserves must be paid for in the time from 30 minutes before the start of a session to 15 minutes before the start.

From 15 minutes before the start they will be resold if the session is full.
