Raglan Film Festival: TOMORROW WE DISAPPEAR

September 18, 2015

For half a century, New Delhi's Kathputli Colony has been home to thousands of the city's magicians, acrobats, singers and puppeteers. It is more than simply a community of like-minded souls. Kathputli Colony is an incubator and preserver of artistic traditions dating back thousands of years.

But now the government wants to bulldoze the entire slum to make room for a skyscraper. The residents of Kathputli must decide whether to fight or fade away.

Variety - "the filmmakers mainly focus on simply recording this fascinating community as it struggles to cope with a world that will be poorer for its absence."

NZ Herald - "moved by a documentary that tells the story of a resilient slum community of artists and performers in Delhi who face eviction and relocation."

This visually cinematic film follows three of Kathputli's residents as they grapple with the end of the only life they've ever known. Painstakingly recorded over the space of three years, the film is a vivid chronicle of the contradictions of an India on the march – and the human toll that progress so often leaves in its wake.
